About Bengaluru:
Nestled in the heart of Karnataka, Bengaluru, also known as the “Silicon Valley of India,” is a vibrant metropolis that blends tradition with modernity. Known for its lush parks, like Cubbon Park and Lalbagh Botanical Gardens, and historical sites like Bangalore Palace and Tipu Sultan’s Summer Palace, the city offers a unique mix of culture and innovation. From the bustling markets of Commercial Street to the serene landscapes around Nandi Hills, Bengaluru provides a wide range of experiences for every traveler. The city’s dynamic tech industry, diverse cuisine, and thriving arts scene make it a fascinating destination for visitors from around the world.
Travel Tips:
Here are some general travel tips to help you make the most of your stay in Bengaluru, gathered from both local and international visitors. We encourage you to consult with colleagues or friends who are familiar with India to enrich your travel plans. Take the time to explore beyond the conference venue to fully experience the rich culture and heritage that Bengaluru and the surrounding regions have to offer.
Voltage and Connectivity: India operates on a 240V/50Hz power supply with distinctive plug configurations (types C, D, and M). Hotels might provide dual-purpose plug setups, but it’s wise to carry plug adapters suited for the Indian model. Verify if your device charger supports the input supply of 240V/50Hz. For convenience, adapters can be found at Indian airports and at the conference site.
While many places, including hotels, airports, and the conference site offer Wi-Fi connectivity, it’s recommended to have a local SIM card for seamless communication and internet access. Airportsm and local telecom shops provide options for purchasing SIM cards with data plans. You can also look into getting an international SIM card or an e-sim card that covers India (if your device supports it).
Local Currency & Credit Cards: The Indian Rupee (INR) is the official currency. Keep in mind that 1 US Dollar is approximately 83 INR. Currency exchange services are available at airports, banks, and currency exchanges like Thomas Cook. Be prepared with copies of your passport/ticket for currency exchange, as some exchange points may require them. While most restaurants, businesses, and hotels accept VISA/Mastercard credit cards, note that using cards issued outside of India might incur a minor convenience charge. To avoid the convenience charge, you can also look into using a Forex card (VISA/Mastercard) with pre-loaded INR.
Transportation: Bengaluru is well connected to major cities across India and internationally by air. Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is the main airport serving the city, with regular flights from cities like New Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Kochi, and international hubs. For the quickest route, direct flights are available from major cities, typically taking about two to three hours domestically. Upon arrival at Kempegowda International Airport, the easiest way to reach the conference venue is by availing a local taxi, app-based ride service (such as Ola or Uber), or the dedicated airport shuttle buses (Vayu Vajra) that connect key locations within the city. The airport is approximately 40 kilometers from the city center, and travel times can vary with traffic, so plan accordingly.
