Checklist and Instructions for Authors
- HiPC 2004 proceedings will be published by Springer Verlag as Lecture Notes in Computer Science (LNCS). Please complete and sign the LNCS copyright form for HiPC 2004 proceedings and fax it to (404)-463-9912, or mail to the following address to reach the Proceedings Chair by Aug 16, 2004:
Sushil K. Prasad
HiPC-04 Proceeding Chair
Computer Science Dept.
Georgia State University
34 Peachtree Street, Suite 1450
Atlanta, GA 30303, U.S.A.
- Register for the conference by August 16, 2004 (see Registration link). It is mandatory that at least one of the co-authors register for the conference before or at the time that the camera-ready paper is uploaded. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU COMPLY WITH THIS REQUIREMENT! If at least one of the co-authors is not registered by this date, your paper will not be included in the conference proceedings, and it risks being rejected for presentation at the conference as well.
- Full papers are limited to 10 pages. Note that 10 pages under LNCS format is much less than 10 pages under IEEE format, so be mindful of this when preparing your final manuscripts. You may buy up to two additional pages at a cost of U.S. $100 per page. All page-charge checks must accompany the copyright forms to the Proceedings Chair. If you wish to pay the excess page charge along with your registration fee, use the registration form.
Consult LNCS’s Information for Authors for preparing your manuscript. This page also contains .tex/.doc style files and samples, which the authors are encouraged to employ. You are strongly encouraged to use LATEX2e for the preparation of your camera-ready manuscript together with the corresponding Springer class file llncs.cls; If you are unable to use LATEX, you may use MS Word together with the template sv-lncs.dot or any other text processing system. In the latter case, please follow these instructions closely in order to make the volume look as uniform as possible.
Carefully follow the detailed formatting guidelines in LNCS Author’s Instruction for the Preparation of Camera-ready Contributions. Any revised submissions required as a result of non-compliance of these formatting instructions must meet the submission deadline, as Springer’s editorial and printer deadlines are very tight, and defaulting authors risk missing inclusion of their papers into the proceedings. In particular, pay close attention to the following.
- The printing area is 122 mm × 193 mm, which shall be STRICTLY ENFORCED. Authors are instructed to ensure this before submission by physically measuring their hardcopy pages, as electronic formatting does not translate correctly into the hardcopy occasionally. The text should be justified to occupy the full line width, so that the right margin is not ragged, with words hyphenated as appropriate. Fill pages so that the length of the text is no less than 180 mm.
- Use 10-point type for the name(s) of the author(s) and 9-point type for the address(es) and the abstract. For the main text (single column), use 10-point type and single-line spacing. The font sizes of headings are: title (centered) - 14 point, bold; 1st-level heading - 12 point, bold, and 2nd-level heading 10 point, bold. We recommend using Computer Modern Roman (CM) fonts. Italic type may be used to emphasize words in running text. Bold type and underlining should be avoided. With these sizes, the interline distance should be set so that some 45 lines occur on a full-text page. The abstract should contain at least 70 and at most 150 words. The reference list should be set in small print and placed at the end of your contribution, in front of the appendix, if one exists. For citations in the text, use square brackets and consecutive numbers: [1], [2], [3] . . .
- Do not use (i) running header or (ii) page numbering.
- Do not in-line any figures or tables with text. Figures and tables should be centered. The lettering in figures should have a height of 2 mm (10-point type). Figures should be numbered and should have a caption, which should always be positioned under the figures, in contrast to the caption belonging to a table, which should always appear above the table. Please center the captions between the margins and set them in 9-point type. The distance between text and figure should be about 8 mm, the distance between figure and caption about 5 mm. In the printed volumes, illustrations are generally black and white (halftones) - to ensure that the reproduction of your illustrations is of reasonable quality we advise against the use of shading. The contrast should be as pronounced as possible.
- Electronically submit your paper to Proceedings Chair using the Camera-ready Paper Submission Form by Aug 16, 2004. For problems, email to [email protected] or to [email protected].
What to Submit?
Upload a single archived file comprising all your files. If desired, you may compress your file. The uploaded archived file must include your source files (e.g., .tex or .doc files). Here are some pointers on archive/compress utilities. Do not submit any hard copies.
Archive and submit the following:
For Latex/Tex users (strongly preferred):
- Your source (input) files, e.g. TEX files for the text and PS or EPS files for figures.
- Any style files, templates, and special fonts you may have used.
- The final DVI file.
- The final PS file, and, if possible, a PDF file of the final version of your contribution. When generating the PS file avoid using the option "reverse order."
For MS Word and other users (discouraged):
- Your source (input) file, e.g. .doc file for the text and files for figures, if any.
- Any style files, templates, and special fonts you may have used.
- The final RTF file
- The final PDF file, if possible, of the final version of your contribution.
